# I replied or called

A reply or a call on its own rarely costs you anything. What matters is what you gave them.

1. ### Gave them anything?

   Each has its own steps:

   - [A password or a code](https://www.urlert.com/recover/password.md)
   - [Card or bank details](https://www.urlert.com/recover/card.md)
   - [Money](https://www.urlert.com/recover/money.md)
   - [Your ID, date of birth or address](https://www.urlert.com/recover/id.md)
   - [Installed something, or let them into your computer or phone](https://www.urlert.com/recover/remote.md)
2. ### Stop replying, and block them.

A reply shows them someone is there. They may try again from a new number.

3. ### Report it.

Report it to your police or your country's fraud reporting service, even if you lost nothing. Reports help stop the same scam reaching others. Add your screenshot of the message, if you took one. In the US and UK, you can also forward a scam text to 7726.

[In the US: ReportFraud.ftc.gov (the FTC's website, opens in a new tab)](https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/)

#### Who to contact

- **Your police or fraud reporting service** In the US: ReportFraud.ftc.gov

Never a number from the message.

#### Keep as proof

Before you delete anything: a screenshot of the message, the number or name it came from, and any receipts.

## From now on

- ### Don't trust calls that say they're your bank.

Hang up and call the number on your card. Your bank will never ask you to move money or read out a code.
- ### Watch for the next message or call.

Scammers often come back with a more convincing one, sometimes pretending to be your bank or the police. Check it here before you act.
